SUZANNE DANCE (Sister Morvenne) 

Trained at the RSAMD, the inaugural year of the Masters course, in 1998. Recent roles include Hildegard of Bingen, Shirley Valentine, Stephen Gordon in 'The Well of Loneliness', Anfisa 'The Thrie Sisters'. Film: lead roles in 'South in my Soul' (Channel 4 and the Edinburgh International Film Festival) and 'A Wee Secret' (Channel 4). Will appear in future episodes of  STV's  'High Road'  as Lily (main role) and in Rebus (Mortal Causes). In Festival 2001 Suzanne appeared with Mikhail Barishnikov and The White Oak Dance Project in PASTforward at the Edinburgh Playhouse.

 

SEAN KANE (Ewan of Rheged) 

Trained Queen Margaret College. Recent Theatre: Mistress of the Inn, Dial M for Murder, Run for your Wife (Perth Rep.), Macbeth, Peter Pan (Royal Lyceum), Class Act (Traverse), A Streetcar named Desire, A Little Hotel on the Side (Pitlochry Festival Theatre), The Wallace, A Prince without a Realm, Tamlane (Theatre Alba), Bouncers (Livewire Productions) TV & Film includes: 999 (BBC), Darkness in the Afternoon (Channel 4 Films) Sean will soon be seen as 'George Heriot' in a new Channel 4 series called 'King Jamie & The Angel' based on the life of James VI of  Scotland
ELIZA LANGLAND (Old Thenew)

Trained in Edinburgh and Paris, theatre work covers Royal Lyceum, Perth Rep,  Tron Glasgow,  Traverse Edinburgh,  Cumbernauld Theatre,  Manchester Royal Exchange,  Lyric Hammersmith,  Dundee Rep,  Eden Court Inverness, Grey Coast Theatre,  Borderline,  Prime Productions and with the Scottish Theatre Co. in 'The Wallace', 'The Thrie Estaitis' and 'Galileo'. This is her first role in a Theatre Alba/mpr production.  She works extensively in BBC and independent radio drama as actor and writer and her own afternoon play, a comedy entitled 'Mamihlapinatapai'  was broadcast in June on Radio 4. 
ANNE LANNAN (Queen Anna Morgause)

Graduated from Birmingham School of Drama. Began her professional acting career at the Lyceum and Borderline Theatres. Her  work has been closely allied to Theatre Alba and the Brunton Theatre in which she played numerous roles; most notable of these were Mirren in 'The Wallace'. Alba in 'The Cauldron', Isobel in 'The Shepherd Beguiled' and Jane Eyre in 'Jane Eyre'. In Northern Ireland she worked at the Lyric and Centre Stage Theatres. Her most recent stage roles include the lead role in 'Gravity' by Zinnie Harris and Bridget in 'Josef' by Raymond Ross.
CLUNIE MACKENZIE (Graine)

Trained in Edinburgh and has been in numerous Theatre Alba productions throughout her professional career, including 'Tamlane', 'The Shepherd Beguiled' and 'The Cauldron' She has performed at the Brunton Theatre and toured throughout Scotland. Has also worked in Film, Radio, and TV.
KIRSTIN SMITH (Tennoch)

Kirstin began professional acting at thirteen with a role in Hugh Hudson's film 'My Life, So Far'. Since then, she has undertaken several television roles, including Charlotte in 'Life Support', Susan in 'Taggart: Bloodlines', and Louise in 'Sunset Song' for BBC Education. This is her first major theatre role. Kirstin has recently left Boroughmuir High School and is taking a gap year before going to university.

JAMES SUTHERLAND (King Lot)

Trained at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in Kent, graduating with BA Hons. in 1995. Whilst at college he appeared as: Simon Chachava 'The Caucasian Chalk Circle', Sir Toby Belch 'Twelfth Night', Banquo 'Macbeth', Sir Jasper Fidget 'The Country Wife', John Morrison 'Men Should Weep' and Alex Walpurg 'The Mad Man and the Nun'. James has  since appeared as Adam Yestreen 'Farewell Miss Julie Logan (S.A.I.); worked for a season at the Highland Mystery World, Glencoe; and  most recently as Bradefute/Menteith in 'The Wallace' (Theatre Alba), and in STV's 'Taggart'.

JAMES A. TENNANT(Deni)

James first stage appearance was as an extra in a production of C.P. Taylor's 'Good' directed by Charles Nowosielski. He has acted in such diverse places as Liverpool , Manchester, Hungary, Slovenia and Livingston. His favourite roles include Judd in 'Bouncers'; Lord Darnley in 'Vivat! Vivat! Regina!'  and Hector in 'Widows of Clyth'. He last worked for Theatre Alba in their Fringe 2001 Production of 'The Wallace' as Reid Comyn.

TAMLANE - Cast Biographies in alphabetical order


Irene Allan 
Trained at Queen Margaret College. Since graduating she has performed with the Royal National Theatre, London, The Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh and Firstbase, Edinburgh, amongst others. Productions include: "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie", 'The Merchant of Venice", "Sleeping Beauty" and "'Hildegard".


Susie Hulskramer 
Trained, Telford College, Queen Margaret College. Plays include Romeo and Juliet (Juliet), Measure for Measure (Isabella), The Widows of Clythe (Iceet) , Blood Wedding, Six Degrees of Separation and Macbeth. Has appeared in numerous commercials, corporate videos and student films.


Joy McBrin
Began her career as a child in pantomime and plays on "Children's Hour". She has worked with Ulster Theatre Group, 7:84 Theatre Company  Borderline Theatre Company, Traverse Theatre and in 1998 Theatre Alba, in 'Wallace's Women'. Her TV credits include 'Reconstruction' and 'They Came from Seville'.


Sean Kane
Trained Queen Margaret College. In recent times has worked with as Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Perth Repertory Theatre, Arkeen Theatre Company, Impact Theatre Company, Livewire, Traverse. His TV and film credits include 999 (BBC) Darkness in the Afternoon (Channel 4 Films/Cormorant Films)


Paul J. Henry
Following two short acting courses, he attended Hull University , graduating BA (Hons.) in Drama in 1997. Since then he has worked in T.I.E. in Birmingham and has recently finished touring Devon in TWELFTH NIGHT and ROMEO and JULIET with the West Country Theatre Company.


Clunie Mackenzie
Trained in Edinburgh and has been in numerous Theatre Alba productions throughout her professional career, including Tamlane, The Shepherd Beguiled and The Cauldron. She has performed at the Brunton Theatre and toured throughout Scotland. Has also worked in Film, Radio, and TV.


David Murray
Trained at the RSAMD, participating in his second Festival production. Recent work includes 'The Merchant of Venice" with Prime Productions. This is his first production in association with Theatre Alba.


MUSICIANS
John Grace
has been a singer, songwriter and actor for many years. He has recorded three albums and toured extensively in UK & Europe. He has appeared on Radio and TV and has worked with 7:84 Theatre Company and Theatre Alba. He has also written for the theatre.


Pamela Black
Is a freelance professional musician, having worked with the London Vivaldi Ensemble, the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, and other major Scottish ensembles. She has performed in several Theatre Alba productions including The Puddok  and the Princess, Tamlane and the Shepherd Beguiled.


Ann Ward
Previously  taught  music and now plays in traditional music bands in and around Edinburgh. She has played in several Theatre Alba productions including THE SHEPHERD BEGUILED at the 1998 Edinburgh Fringe.

Anne Lannan (Olga)
Graduated  Birmingham School of Drama. She has worked with Lyceum and Borderline Theatres, Theatre Alba and the Brunton Theatre. In Northern Ireland she worked at the Lyric and Centre Stage Theatres. She is a founder of Theatre Alba/MPR.  Recent work  includes roles in two Pinter plays - "A Light Ache" and "The Lover" for  the innovative graduate Director programme at Queen Margaret College. Lead role in "Gravity" by Zinnie Harris (May-June 2000)


Fiona Danskin (Natasha)
Fiona began her professional life as an artist, painting and exhibiting for 8 years, before going on to train at Brimingham School of Speech and Drama. Theatre includes: 'Inheritance' (Theatre Touring Tayside); 'The Gift' and  'Angus 21' (Foxtrot); "Showcase '99" (Scottish Actors Initiative). Radio: 'Hand in Glove' (BBC Radio 4). Television: 'Tribal Scotland' (BBC); 'Crimewatch UK' (BBC). Film: 'Angel Crush'; 'Milk (1:37am)'. Fiona is a committee member of S.A.I.


Lucinda Baillie (Irena)
Has extensive theatre experience. She has worked at the Brunton ,The Arches and the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, taking roles as diverse as Mrs Danvers (Rebecca) and Anne Frank (The diary of Anne Frank). Most recently she has been working  with First Bite, an innovative company developing new theatre for young people. After the festival she joins Black Cat Theatre for a tour of Macbeth.


Corinne Harris (Masha)
Actor and musician.  She has worked with Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Exchange, Communicado, the Traverse, TAG, Bristol Old Vic and many other theatre companies. Worked extensively in Television (STV, LWT, BBC), Will appear in future broadcasts of television dramas "Inspector Rebus" (from the Ian Rankin novels) and "Taggart"  TV crime series. Composed original melodies for five Shakespeare sonnets for Theatre Alba's production  "Shakespeare  at the Sheraton".


Suzanne Dance (Anfisa) 
Has many years experience in theatre, film, T.V. and radio. She recently graduated from the new Masters course at the RSAMD. Roles include Hildegard of Bingen, Shirley Valentine, Stephen Gordon in "The Well of Loneliness", and starred in "South in my Soul" screened both on Channel 4 and at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Will appear in future episodes of  STV's  "Take the High Road".


Simon Tait (Vershinnen)
Began working professionally in 1977. Work includes four shows in the West End, including one lead, Take the High Road and many radio drama  and Storyline broadcasts for Radio Scotland and Radio Four.


Euan McIver  (Toozenbach) 
This is Euan's third venture with Theatre Alba, having appeared in 'The Shepherd Beguiled' in 1998 and 'To the Cross', at Easter1999. Euan graduated with a BA in drama from the RSAMD in 1983 and has appeared in many guises from Algernon in 'The Importance of Being Earnest' to Widow Twankey in 'Aladdin'.


Ian Hanmore  (Chebutykin) 
Lives in Penicuik and came into acting 5 years ago via Telford College. Works mainly in Film and TV with voice-over work filling in the spaces. Glad to be doing stage work after a gap of about 2 years.


Douglas Russell (Sollony)
Professional career began in 1990 at Pitlochry festival with roles in Arsenic and Old Lace and Whisky Galore. Stage career includes stints with Cumbernauld Theatre, Theatre Workshop, Grassmarket Project, Eden Court, Grid Iron, First Base, Invisible Bouncers, Xpress Munich and Vital Spark. Has also worked in TV (BBC, ITV) and Radio.


Gavin Bolus (Koolygin)
Previous Fringe performances include his own plays: Jonas Fisher ('87); Balthazar ('91); Let America Come ('93); The Laughing Roundhead ('94); The Open Haund ('98). Has also played Benedict, Oberon and Menenius in Camelions Shakespeare productions. Writing film script based on Tam O ' Shanter. 


Steve Cartwright (Andrey)
Trained at Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh. Theatre credits include 'Trainspotting', 'Mad' (Grassmarket Project) and 'All That Glitters' (First Base). Film credits include 'Hold Back The Night' (Parralax Films)


Kenneth McKay (Ferapont) 
Acted on and off or 15 years, professionally for the last six. Plays guitar, sings and dances. Currently writing his first play. Worked in Theatre, film and TV.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe '98

Wallace's Women

Lucinda Baillie has graced stage, screen and airwaves with her creativity as a performer for the last 12 years. Most recently she has been touring Scotland and north England with First Base Theatre. Her film  "The Last Drop" was shown at a major film festival in the US and in the past she was a mainstay with Theatre Alba and the Brunton Theatre under the direction of CharlesNowosielski. Her credits there include "Cabaret", "The Diary of Anne Frank", "Rebecca" and "Whuppitie Stourie". Her television credits include "The Advocate" for BBC and "Take the High Road" and "Dr Finlay" for ITV


Sylvia Cockburn trained at the RSAMD and lives in East Lothian with her partner and two daughters. She has many theatre credits including "Playboy of the Western World":- Dundee Rep, "The Gorbals Story" -7:84 Theatre Company, "The Beggars Opera" -WIldcat, "Tartuffe", and "Treasure Island"- Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh. She recently appeared in "Riders to the Sea" for MPR Theatre Studio and is to appear in "Medical Ethics" for BBC TV.


Sarah Gudgeon  graduated form Queen Margaret College in 1994. Her theatre credits include "The Birthday Party" - Theatre Galore/Arches Theatre Company , "The Lass wi the Muckle Mou" and "A Soft Touch" - Brunton Theatre Company, directed by Sandy Neilson. She has appeared in "Breaking the Waves", the television version of "The Crow Road" and appears regularly in STV's "High Road".


Corinne Harris worked for many years in mainstream theatre  after graduating from Queen Margaret College She has worked with Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Exchange, Communicado, the Traverse, TAG, Bristol Old Vic amongst many other theatre companies. Also worked extensively in Television (STV, LWT, BBC). She is also an accomplished classical and jazz musician.


Joy McBrin began her career as a child in pantomime and plays on "Children's Hour" . training in London, she joined the "Ulster Theatre Group" as ASM working with such actors as James Ellis and the late Colin Blakely. Her recent theatre includes "Tea in a China Cup" -7:84  Theatre Company and "Bold Girls" - Borderline Theatre Company, "Songs of the Grey Coast" & "Grace In America" -Traverse Theatre. Her TV credits include "Reconstruction" and "They Came from Seville".


Ruth McGhie's career began in the 60's but was put on hold to bring up a family and teach special needs children. On returning to the profession a few years ago her credits include "Short Takes in Sharp Focus"  - Byre Theatre, "The Derners" - Rideout Theatre, "The Trick is to Keep Breathing"- Tron Theatre and "The Birthday Party". Her TV credits include"Bad Boys" - BBC Scotland, "Rab C. Nesbitt " for Comedy Unit and"999 Lifesavers"  - BBC Bristol. She appeared in the film "CaptainJack" for Viva Films.


Good Morning Mr Burns
Anne Lannan graduated from the Birmingham School of Drama and began her professional acting career at the Lyceum and Borderline Theatres. The main thrust of her work has been closely allied to  Theatre Alba and the Brunton Theatre in which she played numerous roles. Perhaps the most notable of these were Mirren in "The Wallace". Alba in "The Cauldron", Isobel in "The Shepherd Beguiled" and Jane Eyre in "Jane Eyre". In Northern Ireland she worked at the Lyric and Centre Stage Theatres. She is a founder of MPR Theatre Studio and has therefore been fundamental to the re-birth of Theatre Alba. Her theatre work in recent years has been limited in order to bring up her daughter . Her role in "The Shepherd Beguiled" essentially  re-launched her professional career. Her most recent stage role is  the lead role in "Gravity" by Zinnie Harris.
